The four metrics · Edition 1.0

Four numbers, measured at the gate.

A verified change is one that crosses an interface and passes its gate with evidence.

DORA (software's delivery research program) proved that software could measure its delivery, and that the measurement itself changed behaviour. Four numbers, published yearly, gave every team a target and every vendor a benchmark. The standard proposes the same four for buildings.

Definitions

Each metric, translated

Verified handoffs a day
Translates deployment frequency. Changes that crossed an interface and passed the gate with evidence, per project per day.
Design change to verified install
Translates lead time for change. Calendar days from a decision recorded in design to the installed, inspected result.
Rework per verified install
Translates change failure rate. Share of verified installs later reworked, by cause.
Request-for-information cycle time
Translates time to restore. Days from question to answer with authority.

What ten verified changes a day is worth

Three views of one loss

Run ten verified changes a day on a project and the value shows up in three published loss pools, each scaled to 2025 U.S. construction spending. The pools overlap, so they are three views of one problem, not a sum. The people who bear most of the loss sit at the end of the pipeline, while the people who could prevent it sit at the beginning.
